Building Digital Content Capabilities in Education
ICT skills and internet experience are key determinants of Internet adoption. We believe that building educator capability in digital content for education will improve the quality of education delivery and encourage earlier adoption and usage of the Internet and associated technologies thus preparing learners for the important role that they will contribute to the Information Society and Knowledge Economy.
With funding from Cambridge University Press and The Nominet Trust, DCU’s Learning, Innovation and Knowledge Research Centre is currently undertaking a major capacity building project for digital content in education. The goal of the project is to enhance teacher capabilities using digital content and our aim is for proficiency rather than expertise. Using our own Cisco WEBEX Training Center, we are delivering and recording one hour sessions on aspects of searching, evaluating, licensing (including copyright), viewing/playing, modifying, integrating, describing and exposing/sharing digital content. Educators can access the live web conferences online each week or dial in using VOIP or conventional telephone lines. All sessions are recorded for download after the events. These downloads are available from the Downloads page after the sessions.

Live sessions are delivered pro bono each week by experts from leading organisations in the educational content ecosystem. These include ASU’s Applied Learning Technology Institute (alt^i), Cambridge-Hitachi, Creative Commons, the Centre for Applied Research in Educational Technologies at the University of Cambridge (CARET), Curriki, DCU, DCU LINK, Google, the UK National Archives, the Irish National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE), OER Africa, OpenApp, SCRAN and many others. Details of live sessions and how to register can be found on the Free Training page.
If you are interested in participating by delivering, distributing or attending any of the training sessions, please email Neil Bruton (neil.bruton2@mail.dcu.ie) or visit our Contact Us page.
